VPCCL Match vs Mile Tailenders CC, Tue 12th June 2018, Victoria Park

Viddy Well

London Fields beat Mile Tailenders by 20 runs

by Jason Lord

Captain Will won the toss (again - please can we take him to Vegas?) and opened the batting with Teasdale. They each made some runs and then got out - about 20 and 30 respectively. (Sorry - this is the best I can do because I was only nominated to write the match report long after the scorecard was a meticulously-kept but distant memory). Alex Turner tapped a few around, using a weapon provided by Whitstable-Jake which looked like something from The Warriors - massive and covered in graff'. He got out bowled, trying to muscle the short-but-straight one.

This brought Vidal to the crease to join Jason. The Captain wanted 140 but these two were more ambitious than that, with the highlight being a succession of straight hits for four from Vidal, all finessed to beat each previous field adjustment. Vidal scored 37 while Jason made 25 with shots all round the ground.

164/4, then, off 16 overs. Should be easy, right? And then the onslaught. Tom Damant bowled some enforcement overs to keep it respectable but one particular stylish-but-brutal-pre-meditated-leg-side-pick-up-for-six had the brave LFCC lads starting to wonder.

Suddenly, a chance, and Vidal was the man under the big swirling high ball which would surely make a huge difference to the game - a very good running catch was taken.

Rupert took wickets in the fourth quarter, including smart stumpings by Teaser, but the run rate was still scampering. So, guess who brought some control to tie it up, tie it down and wrestle the win to the ground? Yes, indeedy, it was THAT man, urbane-Chemical-Engineer-about-Town Vidal Bharath.

So, won by 20 in the end but it was closer than that, if you know what I mean. Contributions from everyone but, in particular, congratulations to Rupert on taking 4 wickets in an innings for the first time in his life and to Vidal for a crucial performance with the bat, the ball and that catch
